Earn LUMA certification as a practitioner of human-centered design
LUMA’s Practitioner Certification Program combines expert instruction in the LUMA System of human-centered design with learn-by-doing activities and expert coaching to help your new skills stick.
Over three months, you will learn 10-14 human-centered design methods from the LUMA System, using real-world scenarios for hands-on learning of each method’s activities and techniques.
The Practitioner Certification Program runs as a cohort, so you’re learning together as a group. Each section is limited to 20 participants.
Program structure
The Practitioner Certification Program is made up of:
Four live learning sessions to teach you the fundamentals of human-centered design and the LUMA System in particular.
Followed by three live coaching sessions to help you apply what you’ve learned back in your daily work, share out your results, and receive expert feedback from a LUMA coach as well as peer feedback from other participants.
Learning sessions
Learning sessions are taught by two LUMA-certified instructors. Each learning session consists of:

Coaching sessions
Coaching sessions help you start using the new skills you’ve learned right away, by applying LUMA methods to challenges in your daily work.
For each of the three coaching session, you will:
- Pick a challenge and select the LUMA methods to apply.
- Plan your step-by-step approach using tools on LUMA Workplace.
- Document your work via screenshots, photos, sketches or other artifacts.
- Assess how it went using LUMA’s evaluation worksheet.
- Be ready to share your experience with the group using LUMA’s storytelling template.
As you and others in the group share how you’ve applied LUMA methods to your challenges, your coach will offer expert feedback, guidance and advice. Your peers may also offer feedback — just as you can offer input and encouragement when others tell their stories.
