About Us
We foster innovation by developing competency in Human-Centered Design throughout organizations.
LUMA Institute is not a consultancy. It is an educational institute. We believe:
- Competency in Human-Centered Design lies at the root of innovation.
- Human-Centered Design is comprised of three core-competencies: Understanding, Forming, and Evaluating.
- In the 21st century, design will be as foundational to a person’s education and professional success as science, math, and writing.
The late IBM CEO Thomas J. Watson believed, “Good design must primarily serve people.” He also believed, “Good design is good business.”
But what is design? And if an individual or an organization is “good” at it, just what exactly are they good at? LUMA Institute is an educational institute 100% dedicated to fostering competency in a set of practices known as Human-Centered Design.
On the whole, companies are good at reliably building and manufacturing things. And universities are good at preparing students to solve specific problems related to a product or service. The challenge of innovation is how to put it all together and make products, services, or policies that people (whether they be your customers or constituency) reliably find desirable.
Our workshops, tools, and facilitation services promote a deep understanding and the practical application of Human-Centered Design to whatever you make. Through design, we are committed to helping you transform your organization into a culture of innovation and achieving the next level of business success.
