Private options

Our beginner course, Design Thinking Essentials, and our two intermediate courses, Facilitating Great Meetings and Making Remote Teamwork Human-centered, are offered to private clients.

LUMA Anywhere courses are highly interactive, engaging and dynamic. Our instructors use real-world examples so participants can begin applying what they've learned, right away.

In LUMA Anywhere courses, participants get:

  • Live learning sessions led by a LUMA-certified instructor.
  • Video conferencing to maximize participation, encourage visual learning and support collaboration from any location.
  • Only 12 learners per course, so everyone can participate.
  • Ways to focus on real challenges participants are already facing.
  • Hands-on experience using human-centered design methods from the LUMA System.
  • Access to LUMA Workplace, our digital platform for design thinking. Access begins one week before the first course session and ends two weeks after the final session, for six weeks total.

Course format

LUMA Anywhere courses are three weeks long:

  • In advance, participants will review orientation information and complete a warmup activity so they are ready to dive in.
  • During weeks one and two, participants will attend a two-hour live learning session each week and complete one assignment per week. Assignments will require at least one to two hours outside of course sessions.
  • In week three, participants will attend the final two-hour live learning session with wrap-up and traction plan.
  • Participants in each course section remain together for all three live learning sessions to support developing a community of practice.

Meet our instructors

LUMA has developed our own team of world-class instructors to lead each live learning session. They are keenly tuned to business-related challenges and they lead the live learning sessions in a plain-language and practical way. Every instructor has deep experience using human-centered design in private settings. That allows them to bring LUMA methods to life through relevant stories and to share real-world examples of using design thinking to overcome particular challenges.

In addition, each member of the team is skilled in online instruction and remote technologies to ensure each participant receives an exceptional experience in every session.

Jesse Smith

Jesse Smith has spent his adult life honing his skills in teamwork, facilitation and design.

Working in technical theater for 20 years was the crucible that taught Jesse the value of communication and teamwork mindsets, and helped him develop core designer behaviors. From theater, he made a leap into retail manufacturing, and saw that those same mindsets are transferable to all levels of commercial business, and can set a company apart from competitors.

His work as a designer and facilitator with organizations from local nonprofits to billion-dollar public companies has given him opportunities to demonstrate how any obstacle, at any scale, can be solved elegantly with human-centered design mindsets and methodologies.
